South African Scores Sao Paulo Success!
October 27, 2010 • Tags: Brazil, PSA, Sao Paulo Open, Stephen Coppinger • Categories: all posts, players, tournaments
Marathon matches were the order of the day before second-seeded South African Stephen Coppinger (pic) finally clinched the Sao Paulo Open. Coppinger survived a 69-minute semi-final against US-boy Christopher Gordon, before coming up against top-seeded Brazilian – and home town favourite – Rafael F Alarcon in the final. Alarcon had taken 69 minutes to dispose of English qualifier Chris Fuller to reach his 5th Tour final of the year. Despite the final ultimately being resolved in straight games, another 79 minutes elapsed before Coppinger finally emerged triumphant 11-6, 13-11, 12-10. The victory marks Coppinger’s first Tour title for almost a year, and the fifth of his career.
