Malaysian Sharon Wee also claimed a significant win for her place in the 2nd round. The 32-year-old Wee ousted Denmark’s 15th seed Line Hansen 11-8, 11-5, 6-11, 11-3. After world no.1 Nicol David decided not to enter the “OZ Open”, world no.2 Jenny Duncalf of England took over top position. She demonstrated this with an impressive 11-2, 11-4, 11-6 win over reigning world junior champion Amanda Sobhy. All other seeds came through with more or less problems.
