First four matches in the 2nd round of the men’s draw of the Australian Open saw that all higher seeded players passing their opponents. World no. 1 Nick Matthew (ENG) did not face big problems beating Egyptian 11th seed Wael El Hindi in straight games (11-6, 11-7, 11-3), while 8th seed Englishman Peter Barker took advantage of compatriot Adrian Grant’s retirement after being 11-1 and 2-0 ahead. Four times World Champion Amr Shabana of Egypt was well in control of Malaysian Ong Beng Hee (12-10, 11-6, 11-8) and 6th seed James Willstrop (ENG, pic) destroyed Australian hopes by taking out former two times World Champion David Palmer in four games (11-1, 9-11, 11-2, 11-3).
