Raneem El Weleily (le) and compatriot Tarek Momen (ri) secured all-Egyptian victory at the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
Saving 2 match-balls in the dying stages of the game, unseeded Tarek Momen overcame 2nd seed Mohamed El Shorbagy in the 1st ever all-Egyptian final of the Malaysian Open to win 12-10, 6-11, 12-10, 8-11, 14-12 in dramatic 109 minutes match – and claimed the biggest title of his career.
Raneem El Weleily claimed an historic win over top seed Nicol David to prevent the No1 seed from achieving her 8th title in the Malaysian Open final. The world No.2 showed no fear coming up against David and demonstrated a cool head to take the title in 4 games 12-10, 11-13, 11-6, 11-2.
