Australia’s 35-years-old David Palmer (pic le) is still a major force in the world of squash when he downed world No3 Karim Darwish (pic ri) 11-3, 12-10, 8-11, 12-10 to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open. It was Palmer’s 8th win over Darwish but his first since 2008 and ensures a semi-final against world No1 Nick Matthew. The Englishman withstood a fierce onslaught from Dutchman Laurens Jan Anjema to win 11-5, 11-9, 7-11, 11-5 still on title defense line. Crowd favourite Greg Gaultier of France beat English 4th seeded James Willstrop 7-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-5 after losing the 1st game. Gaultier sets up a stunning semi against Ramy Ashour, who also came back from 1 game down to get past England’s Peter Barker 5-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-4.
