
Qualifiers Joey Chan (pic) and Greg Marche led a flurry of upsets the 1st first round of the CIMB KL Open in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. Joey Chan, the lowest-ranked player in the women’s event, produced a sensational performance to oust Egypt’s 4th seed Omneya Abdel Kawy 11-5, 12-10, 11-7 in just 32 minutes. Frenchman Greg Marche pulled off the biggest upset in the men’s event. The world No72 from Aix-en-Provence ousted Australia’s 3rd seed Cameron Pilley 14-12, 11-8, 11-1 in a 50-minute clash. All other matches, either in the women’s or men’s draw, went the direction they have been predicted by the seeds.
