Malaysia’s Nicol David won a record-equalling 5th World Open squash title when she beat local hope Omneya Abdel Kawy in straight games (11-5, 11-8, 11-6) in the final Soho Square Women’s World Open at Sharm El Sheikh. Abdel Kawy, the fourth seed from Cairo who became the 1st Egyptian ever to reach the world final, was unable to get any control of the match. Nicol David became the dominant force in women’s world squash shortly after the retirement of Sarah Fitz-Gerald, the distinguished Australian who first notched up a fifth World Open title in 2002.
