A scintillating performance in the final of the US Open in Philadelphia saw Egypt’s 3rd seed Amr Shabana (pic le) upset favourite Nick Matthew to win the PSA World Series squash title for 2nd time in 3 years. Shabana was in most of the rallies dominant – reeling off winning volley drops and drop shots almost at will and closed out the match after 50 minutes 11-9, 8-11, 11-2, 11-4. It was England’s World No5 Laura Massaro (pic ri) who took her first major WISPA Grand Prix title as she came back from 1 game down to beat Australia’s World No6 Kasey Brown in 4 games 5-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 to take the US Open crown.
