In the last pool match of the 1st day the reigning World Open Champion Nick Matthew (pic front) took on Egyptian fellow Wael El Hindi (pic back). Matthew eased through the 1st game 11-5, but struggled slightly in the 2nd. After getting back from 5-7 down, Matthew took over control again and won 11-7.
