Waters to face David in Singapore final!

England’s Alison Waters (pic ri) upset second-seeded Australian Rachael Grinham in the semi-finals of the $53,500 CIMB Singapore Masters to set up a clash with three-time champion Nicol David (pic le). It took the 26-year-old world no.1 Malaysian 50 minutes to beat 6th seed Irish Madeline Perry. It was the first meeting since Perry defeated Nicol for the first time at last year’s British Open. In the final it will not be easy for Waters, who has a 14 defeat record against David – last meeting has been one week ago at the Malaysian Open, where David took it in four games after a 64-minute battle.

Top seeds eased through in Quito World Junior Championship!

Players from 14 nations will contest the third round of the Men’s World Junior Squash Championship after winning the opening two rounds in Ecuador’s capital Quito. Egypt dominates proceedings with six players into the last 32. India and Pakistan will be represented by 4 players, followed by 3 from each of USA, England and Mexico. Amr Khaled Khalifa (pic ri) and Ali Farag, the two top seeds from Egypt, enjoyed comfortable straight games second round wins.

One qualifier survived round one in Singapore Masters!

It was Hong Kong’s qualifier Annie Au (pic) who produced the only major upset in the 1st round of the of the $53,500 WISPA Gold event in Singapore. Au overcame 4th seed Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy in five games after 46 minutes. All other seeded players made their way to round no.2. Three of the top seeds have faced some problems to beat their opponents. It was tournament favourite Nicol David (MAS), 8th seed Camille Serme (FRA) and 5th seed Natalie Grainger (USA) who needed five games to beat Raneem El Weleily (EGY), Donna Urquhart (AUS) and Malaysian qualifier Delia Arnold.

The battle of the sexes – part two!

The Singapore Masters, the next WISPA Gold event will start today and Malaysia’s world no.1 Nicol David is looking for her 4th consecutive title. One title she missed out two years ago, when she took on the challenge to play Singapore’s number one male player, 36-year-old Udai Singh. The organizers called it: “The battle of the sexes”. As David has been beaten by Singh at the last occasions there is a request of a revenge match, which will be set up for the 1st of August, again straight after the Singapore Masters. It’s for sure that Nicol David won’t want to lose for a 2nd time.

World no.1 celebrates 30th birthday!

World no.1 Nick Matthew celebrates his 30th birthday today. Two month ago when Nick got to the top, he made himself the most desired present ever. Watch out Nick’s comments on his profile video of England Squash, which has been made when Nick was no. 5. of the world.

Home double victory in Kuala Lumpur!

The two Malaysians Nicol David and Azlan Iskandar made it a good day for the home fans in Kuala Lumpur. The victories in the finals have been contrasting. Iskandar was all time in control over qualifier Tarek Momen, while David has been under massive pressure. Her opponent, the no.2 of the world Jenny Duncalf fought 72 minutes before David claimed her 6th successive Malaysian Open title. After 2004 and 2007 Iskandar won his 3rd title and earned his 1st PSA victory of the year.
