It was Hong Kong’s qualifier Annie Au (pic) who produced the only major upset in the 1st round of the of the $53,500 WISPA Gold event in Singapore. Au overcame 4th seed Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy in five games after 46 minutes. All other seeded players made their way to round no.2. Three of the top seeds have faced some problems to beat their opponents. It was tournament favourite Nicol David (MAS), 8th seed Camille Serme (FRA) and 5th seed Natalie Grainger (USA) who needed five games to beat Raneem El Weleily (EGY), Donna Urquhart (AUS) and Malaysian qualifier Delia Arnold.
