Qualifier Clyne downed Mehboob in British Grand Prix!

Star of today’s evening matches of the ROWE British Grand Prix was the Scotsman Alan Clyne (pic front), when he downed 16th seed Farhan Mehboob from Pakistan. After being 0:8 down in the 5th game, Clyne managed to come back, saved 3 matchballs of Mehboob and won on his 4th matchball 16:14. The 1st four games of today’s 1st round matches of the ROWE British Grand Prix did not last very long. All seeded players have been through and now one of them wasted any time on the ASB all-glass court. All English hopes last on Willstrop!

Only two matches were left after Nick Matthew’s withdrawal. English compatriot James Willstrop (pic) did not need much time to overcome Max Lee of Hong Kong. After just 26 minutes Willstrop took the straight games victory (11-7, 11-5, 11-2). In the last match of the 1st day of the ROWE British Grand Prix Indian fellow Saurav Ghosal needed four games to take out England’s Ryder after 54 minutes (11-6, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7).

Big shock in Manchester – Matthew pulled out!

After the 5th match of day one saw 11th seed Australian Stewart Boswell survived a 5 games encounter against New Zealander Kashif Shuja (11-7, 11-2, 7-11, 11-13, 11-3, 57m) a shocking news came up in Manchester. No.1 seed Nick Matthew (pic) did pull out of the ROWE British Grand Prix because of an injury. The disappointment was shown to Matthew’s face when he stood in front of the crowd and explained the situation.

First 4 matches are done – no surprises did arise and all seeded players have gone through to round two. Adrian Grand ended wild card Jens Schoor’s Grand Prix run. England dominates the BANK’S’ English Grand Prix Qualifying!

Three out of eight qualifying places have been taken by English Players, accompanied by one player from Hong Kong, a Malaysian, a New Zealander, a Scotsman, and an Italian. In the longest match of the qualification finals No.4 seed Alan Clyne finally overcame England’s Joe Lee in 80 minutes (8-11 11-4 8-11 11-3 11-6).
