Englishman Matthew recorded a ruthless 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 semi-final win over unseeded Australian Palmer – and will now face Egyptian Ramy Ashour (pic ri), a 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 winner over France’s 5th seed Greg Gaultier (pic le), who had chances to win every game, only to be undone by some sublime stroke play from the audacious Egyptian, who seems able to hit clean winners from any position on the court. 7-6 to Ashous’s advantage is the match statistic – either Ashour precedes 8-6 or Matthew levels to 7-all.
