Matthew and Ashour set up dream Canberra climax!

World No1 Nick Matthew ended local hero David Palmer’s fairytale run in the Australian Open to set up a dream final with world No2 Ramy Ashour in the 3rd PSA World Series event of the year. Englishman Matthew recorded a ruthless 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 semi-final win over unseeded Australian Palmer – and will now face Egyptian Ramy Ashour (pic ri), a 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 winner over France’s 5th seed Greg Gaultier (pic le), who had chances to win every game, only to be undone by some sublime stroke play from the audacious Egyptian, who seems able to hit clean winners from any position on the court. 7-6 to Ashous’s advantage is the match statistic – either Ashour precedes 8-6 or Matthew levels to 7-all.
