David and Gaultier new US Open Champions!

Malaysian Nicol David and Frenchman Greg Gaultier are the new US Open champions. As David beat Laura Massaro from England in 5 tough games (13-11, 11-13, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5) to repeat her last year’s title, Gaultier was in full command of the match against England’s Nick Matthew to take the victory in straight games 11-4, 11-5, 11-5.

Gaultier and Matthew in US Open final!

The 1st US Open semi-final between Egyptian Karim Darwish and Frenchman Greg Gaultier was a repeat of last year’s quarter-final. This time Gaultier needed 46 minutes to take the 11-7, 11-4, 12-10 victory and making his 4th PSA Tour final in a row.

Gaultier will meet Nick Matthew who was dispatching English compatriot James Willstrop again in straight games 11-3, 11-6, 11-5 in 42 minutes which gives Matthew a 39-10 overall head-to-head lead .

The climax will be the pair’s 25th Tour meeting since September 2002 – and third this year, with 2013 honours shared. Their career head-to-head record to date is 14/10 – in Gaultier’s favour!

will be the semi-final line-up which will go on in a few hours in Philadelphia. At the quarters the World No3 James Willstrop was in sparkling form when he beat Simon Rosner – the world No12 from Germany 11-5, 11-2, 8-11, 11-9.

3rd seed Nick Matthew (ENG) beat London left-hander Peter Barker, the 6th seed in 4 games 11-5, 11-4, 12-14, 11-6.

Despite just a single world ranking position separating the Egyptian pair, World No5 Karim Darwish endorsed his superiority over Mohamed Elshorbagy by despatching his national rival in straight games 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.

Greg Gaultier, the World No2 bidding to reach his 4th PSA World Tour final in a row, defeated unseeded compatriot Mathieu Castagnet 13-11, 11-8, 11-6.

In her 1st ever victory over the world No3 from Egypt, Low Wee Wern (le) upset 2012 runner-up Raneem El Weleily (ri) in the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open Championship (7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8) in Philadelphia to ensure double Malaysian interest in the semi-finals for the 1st time in the event’s history.

Wern will meet in the semi-final World No2 Laura Massaro (ENG) who beat Kasey Brown (AUS) (10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 11-5) after coming back from 1 game down.

In the 2nd semi, World No1 Nicol David (MAS) will face Joelle King (NZL), after dispatching Madeline Perry (IRE) in straight games (11-6, 11-6, 11-4). Before King surprisingly beat 4th seed Alison Waters (ENG) 12-10, 11-2, 11-3 in just 37 minutes.

Rosner reaches goal at US Open!

Germany’s Simon Rosner (le) achieved his goal to reach the quarter-finals of a PSA World Series event when he upset 8th-seeded Egyptian Tarek Momen (ri) 11-7, 10-12, 11-2, 11-9 on the last 16 round action in U.S. Open in Philadelphia.

Rosner will now face James Willstrop, the second seed from England who eased to an 11-7, 11-9, 11-4 win over 22-year-old Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad.

2007 champion Matthew ended Campbell Grayson’s run, beating the New Zealand qualifier 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 to meet Londoner Peter Barker who overcome Joe Lee 8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.

Maserati, 1 of the world’s most iconic luxury sports car brands, have become the latest partner of the AJ Bell World Squash Championship which takes place in Manchester, England, from 26 October to 3 November.

It will be the 1st time in the famous Italian car manufacturer’s 99-year history that they have sponsored squash in the most prestigious squash tournament in the world.
