Second seed Amr Khaled Khalifa (pic) prevailed in the all-Egyptian final of Canary Islands Open to win his first PSA World Tour title since becoming world junior champion in August. The 18-year-old from Cairo was taken the full distance in the semi-finals before overcoming Germany’s fourth seed Jens Schoor 11-7, 11-6, 5-11, 10-12, 11-6. His opponent in the final was qualifier Marwan El Shorbagy – the 17-year-old from Alexandria stunned top seed Joel Hinds in the opening round. El Shorbagy took the 2nd game to draw level, but it was Khalifa, the world No98, who ultimately came through, winning 11-9, 9-11, 14-12, 11-7 to pick up the fourth Tour title of his career to date.
