In the 1st match of the evening session, former world no.1 Amr Shabana of Egypt overcame promising Australian Ryan Cuskelly in four games (11-8, 11-7, 12-14, 11-8). Followed by the Malaysian Ong Beng Hee (pic), who caused the first surprise of the tournament when he upset 15th seed Englishman Alister Walker in a five-game marathon in 95 minutes 11-7, 14-12, 6-11, 6-11, 13-11. World no.6 James Willstrop defeated Australian qualifier Matthew Karwalski 11-9, 11-6, 11-3. Last match for today showed Australian David Palmer, the 10th seed, beat India’s Saurav Ghosal in four games (10-12, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9) after coming back from one game down.
