Peter Barker just survived Hisham Ashour’s firework!

The last four 2nd round matches at Grand Central Station in New York have been contrasting, but the top-seeds came through in the end. Egyptian 4-times World Champion Amr Shabana had no worries whatsoever to beat English Daryl Selby in straight games (11-6, 11-8, 11-8). England’s World Champion 2010 Nick Matthew was in complete control of his compatriot Alister Walker (11-5, 11-8, 11-5). Also 6th seed Dutch Laurens Jan Anjema eased into the quarters while he beat Swiss star Nicolas Mueller 11-9, 11-4, 11-3. English 5th seed Peter Barker (pic) and Egyptian shot-maker Hisham Ashour did go for the full distance, while Ashour was on fire in the 1st 2 games but Barker fought back with every trick in the book to stay on top in the final game after 77 minutes (10-12, 13-15, 11-9, 12-10, 11-2).
